The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Fire Department offer free, FEMA-approved 21 hour CERT disaster-response training to the community.
Classes are taught by LACFD firefighters and Emergency Medical Services paramedics. Through this training, residents learn about hazards that may impact their community. Class topics include basic disaster response skills, fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
You will never be asked to do anything that you are uncomfortable doing; both in the classroom setting and in a real-life emergency situation. The LACFD officers are very respectful of age and the physical limitations of the Friendly Valley students. They are so pleased that this Friendly Valley community wants to ready themselves.
Upon completion of the course, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
$$$ CERT TRAINING IS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE $$$
FOR SANTA CLARITA RESIDENTS
Participants have no obligation or commitment to respond or act in the event of a disaster situation. There is no formal Friendly Valley CERT-Team. This training is for your personal growth and experience. In an emergency situation, you can choose to assist your community as your skills and physical limitations permit.
The CERT class curriculum for the training program consists of the following: (1) 5-hour classroom session and (2) full day weekend classes conducted by an active LACFD disaster specialist. The end of the Sunday session is a final skills assessment in a disaster scenario guided by our fire department specialists.
