1 IN 3 PETS WILL GO MISSING
IN THEIR LIFETIME!

In a crisis situation, pets often bolt and run away in fear or hide and cannot be found. Many frightened and lost pets are never reconnected with their owners.

Pet collars are missing, tags disappear and there is no microchip scanner available to read implanted chips.

Pets have been known to be stolen in chaotic situations. Your pet depends on you to make the wise decisions.

CONSIDER A PET-ID PHOTO
An image of a pet and owner/owners together in a photograph is considered
”DEFINITIVE PROOF OF OWNERSHIP”
in such situations.

KEEP A PET ID PHOTO ON YOUR PHONE AND IN YOUR PET’S RECORDS.

ROSIE - YOUR BUG-OUT BAG AND NEW TRAVEL CRATE LOOK READY TO GO!

READY ROSIE will be a featured site in every issue. This site will offer both education and humor for cat and dog owners of the Friendly Valley community regarding emergency preparation for your treasured pets.

The real “Ready Rosie” is my personal dog. She is a small white, very energetic terrier. As I prepare my dog for SHELTER-IN-PLACE and EMERGENCY EVACUATION ORDERS, I will share what I have learned with you. The READY ROSIE site will help you prepare your pet’s “GO-BAG” and “PET FIRST AID KIT”. I will explain the necessary forms to enter an emergency shelter with your pet, how to prove the animal belongs to you if lost in a disaster situation, why identification chipping is so vital and how to select an inexpensive crate or carrier to keep in the closet just in case you are forced to evacuate. Learn how to acclimate your pet to the carrier long before the emergency situation happens. (See the many videos and articles referring to “Pet Go-Bags”, crates and carriers and required documentation in our EPC Resource Library.)

The pet images in this FV-EPC.com website were created with artificial intelligence graphics. No harm was done to Rosie in the creation of these silly images that are meant to make you smile and then think about disaster preparation for both you and your precious pet.

The real, live Rosie does have a disaster helmet and she is often seen on walks throughout the community encouraging neighbors to give thought to what you would do if the Los Angeles County Fire Department gave you a 10-MINUTE EVACUATION ORDER. ARE YOU READY?

LICENSED SERVICE ANIMALS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME IN RED CROSS EMERGENCY SHELTERS AND ARE NOT CONSIDERED PETS. BRING DOCUMENTATION OF SERVICE ANIMAL CERTIFICATION.

American Red Cross

DOGS AND CATS BROUGHT TO RED CROSS SHELTERS MUST BE KENNELED OR IN CRATES AND CANNOT BE BROUGHT INTO AREAS WHERE HUMANS ARE BEING FED AND ARE SLEEPING. THEY WILL BE IN A DIFFERENT AREA WHERE VOLUNTEERS WILL MONITOR THEIR PHYSICAL SAFETY.

OWNERS OF THE CATS AND DOGS ARE REQUIRED TO HANDLE THE SANITATION NEEDS OF THE ANIMALS AND THEIR FOOD/WATER. GENERALLY, ANIMALS ON LEASHES CAN BE WALKED AROUND THE SURROUNDING AREAS BY THEIR OWNERS.

HELPFUL TIPS WHEN YOU FIND A LOST PET!

It is important to get a loose pet to a protected area and off of the streets for its safety.

Call animal control for help if you aren't comfortable approaching animal.

Call any phone numbers on pet's id tags, or take the pet to a veterinarian to be scanned for a microchip.

Keep the pet separate from your family and other pets if you decide to bring it inside.

Post pet's picture on social media to try to locate/notify owner.

MICROCHIPPING YOUR PET

This is a microchip - it is the size of a grain of rice.
It can make the difference between your dear pet being returned to you or never being reconnected when lost.

PET POISONINGS

In spite of our best efforts, kids and pets eat stuff that is not food.

If you think your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance

IMMEDIATELY CALL YOUR VET OFFICE OR AN EMERGENCY ANIMAL HOSPITAL FOR PROFESSIONAL ADVICE
